Ourselves Unit 1A


Assessment criteria and Learning outcomes:

·       I can sort objects or pictures into things that are alive or have never been alive.

·       I have looked at some living things and found out how they are the same and how they are different.

·       I have looked after a living thing and know what it needs to stay alive.

·       I have found out what humans do that are the same as other animals. I know that humans are animals.

·       I have watched a baby animal to see how it changes as it grows.

·       I have watched animals moving. I have found out about the different ways that animals can move.

·       I know what my eyes and my ears are for.

·       I know what my nose tells me about things.

·       I have found out about my sense of touch.

·       I have found out about my sense of taste.

·       I can draw a set of pictures for a chart to show my work.

Growing Plants Unit 1B


Assessment criteria and Learning outcomes:

·       I know what makes a plant a living thing.

·       I can sort a collection of plants into ones that are alive, ones that have died and ones that have never been alive.

·       I have looked at plants that grow in an area nearby. I know some of their names and what they look like.

·       I have looked after a plant and know what it needs to stay alive.

·       I know what the leaves and stems of some plants look like.

·       I know what the flowers of different plants look like.

·       I know what the roots of some plants look like.

·       I can name the parts of a plant with flowers.

·       I know what a plant needs to grow.

·       I can carry out a test suggested to me about what a plant needs to grow and stay alive.

·       I can draw pictures to show what I do and describe what I see.

Materials Unit 1C


Assessment criteria and Learning outcomes:

·       I have looked at different materials to see how they are the same and different.

·       I have felt different materials and can describe them using the right words.

·       I can put materials into groups that are similar in the way they feel.

·       I can out materials together that look similar.

·       I can name and pick out metals and plastics from a group of materials.

·       I can name and pick out wood, paper and rock from a group of materials.

·       I have found out about materials that will stick to a magnet and those which will not.

·       I know the different ways that wood, glass, plastic, metal and wool can be used.

·       I can talk about what I see and feel.

·       I can talk about what I do.

·       I can draw pictures to show what I do.

Light / Dark Unit 1D


Assessment criteria and Learning outcomes:

·       I can find out about light using my senses.

·       I have found out about all different things that give light.

·       I have found out about things in the sky that give light.

·       I know that the Sun gives light for the Earth.

·       I know why I must not look at the sun directly.

·       I have found out different ways to make a dark place lighter.

·       I know why a place is dark.

·       I know what makes some objects shiny.

·       I can carry out a test suggested to me.

·       I can suggest ideas to test.

·       I can watch something change and say what is happening.

Pushes and Pulls 1E


Assessment criteria and Learning outcomes:

·       I can talk about and describe different ways things can move.

·       I can talk about things that move very fast and things that move very slowly.

·       I can talk about things that change direction quickly and slowly, go up or go down.

·       I can choose the right words to describe how things move.

·       I can explain the way that something moves, how fast it goes and the way it changes direction.

·       I have tested different things to find out what they do when I push them.

·       I have tested different things to find out what they do when I pull them.

·       I know the difference between a push force and a pull force and how they can be used to make something move.

·       I know all different things that can cause movements.

·       I can suggest ideas to test about how things can be made to move.

·       I can explain what I do and why.

Sound Unit 1F

·       I know the sounds different things make.

·       I can tell who is speaking.

·       I know the different ways musical instruments make sounds.

·       I have found out how to hear sounds better or worse.

·       I know which parts of my body can make sounds.

·       I know which part of my body is used to collect sound.

·       I have found out about my sense of hearing.

·       I know what my sense of hearing is used for.

·       I know some loud and some quiet sounds.

·       I have found out and can talk about what happens when I move closer to a sound source.

·       I can measure how far away I can hear sounds.

Ourselves – Health and Growth Unit 2A


Assessment criteria and Learning outcomes:

·       I can watch something change and say what is happening.

·       I know what humans need to keep them alive.

·       I know why humans need exercise.

·       I know the best food for me to stay healthy.

·       I know the right amounts of food to eat to stay healthy.

·       I know which foods give energy and which foods help our body to grow and repair.

·       I know the kinds of food a human should eat to stay healthy and how much of these they need.

·       I have found out about medicines, and know that medicines are drugs but that not all drugs are medicines.

·       I have looked at families and how babies grow into children and then into adults.

·       I know how animals care for their babies.

·       I have found out about different baby animals.
